Yeppoon runs its own shire, and Rockhampton runs another

Yeppoon is the seat of the Shire of Livingstone and the principal town on the Capricorn Coast, about 40 km from Rockhampton. Rockhampton answers to a different council and uses 4700, 4701 and 4702, so an address here should say Yeppoon rather than the larger city inland. Within the shire, 4703 covers Yeppoon along with Cooee Bay, Taranganba and Lammermoor, none of them more than about seven kilometres from the town centre. Emu Park, 26 km down the coast, uses 4710, and Keppel Sands and Byfield sit further out again.

Four localities on the one number means the postcode will not separate them, so the locality line is the part worth checking twice.

Hospital rosters, and properties out at Byfield

Capricorn Coast Hospital is in Yeppoon under the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service, which makes its staff a steady reason to send something. The shire is administered from the town as well, so council and health service addresses both land inside 4703 alongside the houses. Out at Byfield and Keppel Sands the street grid gives way to rural property addressing, and a property name on its own will not bring anything to the gate. Ask for the road name and the number exactly as the resident writes them.

Birthdays, a new baby, sympathy and end-of-year thanks are the usual reasons here. Where a bottle would be wrong, the non-alcoholic hampers are built on the food alone, and the sweet hampers are the easiest thing to hand round a staffroom on a shift change.
