Hampers that suit the Queensland climate
Some of what we pack barely notices the weather. If the hamper is heading to Brisbane between about November and March, these are the contents to look for on the label:
- Kangaroo Island Produce Co honey popcorn, the single most common item across our range.
- Valley Produce Company mini artisan crackers and the fig and almond fruit pyramid.
- Kangaroo Island olives, which arrive sealed and unbothered.
- Scottie Dog shortbread fingers, about as robust as a biscuit gets.
- Hunter's Gourmet black truffle potato chips, VPC roasted peanuts and Mr Filbert's nuts, all in the snacking range.
- Pimlico fruit jellies and The Regimental Condiment Company tapenade.
Chocolate in a Brisbane summer
Chocolatier Belgian chocolate truffles, Chocolatier caramelised cashew brittle, Buttermilk caramel sea salt fudge and Borgo de Medici macarons are the heat-sensitive items in the catalogue. The insulated shipper box that carries most hampers is there for exactly this reason and it does real work, but no packaging beats a letterbox baking through a Brisbane afternoon. Three things help: send to a workplace or a building where someone will bring it inside, order early in the week rather than on a Friday, and in high summer lean toward a hamper where chocolate is a component rather than the centrepiece.
Wine and champagne travel well
Heat is far less of a problem for a sealed bottle than for a truffle, which makes the food and wine hampers a sound Queensland pick. The range includes Château Tanunda Grand Barossa Shiraz, Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc and the Bay of Stones Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc, with G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge, Moët & Chandon Impérial Brut and Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label in the champagne boxes. Tell the recipient to give white and sparkling an hour in the fridge before they open anything.
Past the city limits
Brisbane orders spread a long way: the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba, and up the coast well beyond that. Everything ships tracked Australia-wide. The further north or the more remote the address, the more the advice above matters, so for a mining camp, an island resort or a far north town the non-chocolate boxes are simply the safer buy.
Timing a summer delivery
Two small habits make a hot-weather hamper easier. Order early in the week, so the parcel is moving on business days instead of resting somewhere over a weekend. And give us an address where the box will be carried inside promptly: a workplace, a reception desk, a neighbour who is home during the day. Neither is a guarantee, and we will not pretend to control what happens once a parcel is in the postal network, but between them they take out most of the risk the climate introduces.
Brisbane hamper questions
Will the chocolate melt on the way to Brisbane?
It can, in summer, if the parcel is left in direct sun or a hot letterbox. Most hampers ship inside an insulated shipper box, which buys real protection, and every parcel is tracked so the recipient can be told when to expect it. In December and January we would still steer you toward a hamper whose backbone is biscuits, popcorn, olives and nuts.
Which Brisbane hampers are safest in a heatwave?
The savoury and biscuit-led boxes, and the wine boxes. If you want to avoid alcohol as well, the non-alcoholic hampers include plenty built on crackers, olives, popcorn and shortbread.
Can I send one to the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast?
Yes. Every hamper is sent tracked with Australia Post anywhere in the country, and a Coast address is ordered exactly the same way as a Brisbane one. We do not quote transit times by postcode, because that leg is Australia Post's to run, not ours to promise.
