The story.
Pomegranate molasses is pomegranate juice boiled down to a dark, pourable syrup. It is sour first and sweet second, closer to tamarind or an aged balsamic than to honey, and it is used for dressings, marinades, glazes and drizzling rather than for sweetening. This bottle is 250ml, and the ingredient list is one line: 100 per cent pomegranate molasses, with no added sugar and nothing else in it.
The Belazu Pomegranate Molasses is a vibrant, tangy syrup made from 100% Turkish pomegranates. Known for its quality and taste, this molasses combines the richness of the Hicaz pomegranate variety with wild Katirbasi pomegranates, creating a syrup that’s both sweet and tangy. Carefully heated in small batches to retain its natural flavour and deep red colour, Belazu’s Pomegranate Molasses is perfect for adding a burst of flavour to both sweet and savoury dishes.
Pomegranate molasses is a staple ingredient in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking, valued for its ability to add depth and complexity to a wide range of dishes. Its tangy sweetness complements savoury flavours, making it an excellent choice for marinades, dressings, and sauces. Try mixing it with olive oil and herbs to create a unique marinade for meats or vegetables. The balance of sweet and tangy flavours makes it particularly delicious on grilled meats, where it forms a caramelised glaze that enhances the smoky flavours of the grill.
This molasses is also perfect for creating salad dressings with a twist. Blend it with olive oil, mustard, and honey to create a dressing that adds a fruity, tangy note to fresh greens. For a more Mediterranean-inspired salad, pair it with ingredients like feta cheese, olives, and cucumbers. The molasses’ rich, vibrant flavour pairs well with bold, salty ingredients, creating a balanced dressing that elevates even the simplest of salads.
For dessert lovers, Belazu’s Pomegranate Molasses is a delightful addition to sweet dishes. Drizzle it over ice cream, pancakes, or Eton Mess for a burst of tangy sweetness that complements creamy textures. It’s also wonderful as a topping for baked goods, adding both flavour and a beautiful deep red colour to cakes, pastries, and tarts. The molasses’ syrupy consistency makes it an elegant finishing touch that adds visual appeal to any dessert.
For those who enjoy Middle Eastern-inspired flavours, pair this pomegranate molasses with other Belazu products, like the Tagine Paste or Preserved Lemons. The combination of these ingredients allows you to create authentic, flavourful dishes that bring the essence of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine to your kitchen.
What is pomegranate molasses?
Reduced pomegranate juice. Nothing is added and nothing is fermented; the juice is simply cooked until most of the water has gone and what is left is thick, dark and intensely tart. It is a staple of Levantine and Persian cooking, where it does the job lemon juice does elsewhere but with more body.
Is pomegranate molasses gluten free?
The ingredient list on this bottle is 100 per cent pomegranate molasses and nothing else, so there is no wheat, barley, rye or oats in it. We would rather be precise than reassuring: we do not hold a gluten free certification for it, and the allergen statement on our record reads contact us for more details, which says nothing about the facility it is bottled in. If you are buying for coeliac disease, call us on 1300 936 406 before you order. Products that do carry their own gluten free labelling are in gluten free options.
How do you use pomegranate molasses?
A tablespoon whisked into a dressing with three of olive oil. Brushed over lamb, chicken wings or aubergine in the last ten minutes of roasting so it glazes without burning. Stirred into yoghurt, drizzled over roast carrots or feta, or added to a soda with mint. Nine specific uses are in nine ways to use pomegranate molasses once the bottle is open.
Does pomegranate molasses need to be refrigerated?
No. Our record says ambient storage, and to use it within three months of opening. It will thicken in a cold cupboard, which is normal.
Where can I buy pomegranate molasses in Australia?
Here. Orders placed before 12pm on a weekday are dispatched the same day from our Corio, VIC warehouse, tracked with Australia Post. The rest of the range is on the Belazu brand page.
